Bed Bugs in Schools - College

In this episode Jeff will discuss a few easy steps for college students and their parents to reduce the chances that you encounter bed bugs in college and university settings.  Although it is unlikely that you encounter bed bugs on a college or university campus, there are a few easy steps that you can take to further reduce any chance of an unwanted encounter.  The most important advice any college student can receive about possible bed bugs in their room is to tell someone within the campus staff if you think you may have an issue.  Reporting any issue as early as possible will reduce the likelihood that the infestations spreads to other rooms and will make eliminating the infestation much easier in the long run.  Interception devices and bed encasements are good ways to further protect your bed against these unwanted invaders as well as provide you the ability to detect infestations early on (remember to check with campus staff about encasing college or university mattresses).  For parents, providing your student with dissolvable laundry bags (or simple garbage bags) so that laundry can easily be transferred into a hot wash cycle upon returning home will reduce the chance that bed bugs are introduced into the house.  .  Interception devices and bed encasements are good ways to further protect your home against these unwanted invaders as well as provide you the ability to detect infestations early on.  Lastly, portable heating devices can be an advanced form of protection to heat treat any unlaunderable items and kill and bed bugs and their eggs that may be present on them.
