Cooper Pest Solutions and BedBug Central donate bed bug treatments to families in need with their Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays program
Lawrenceville, N.J. — Over the course of the holidays, Cooper Pest Solutions and BedBug Central helped several families in need of bed bug services with their charity program Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays.
Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays, which started in 2009, is a charitable program sponsored by BedBug Central that offers free bed bug services to those in need who are suffering from bed bug infestations and cannot afford the required treatment to better their living situation. Anyone in financial need may apply, including group homes, shelters and nursing homes. In order to be considered, applicants submitted a letter explaining why the charitable bed bug treatments would be of value to them.
Research Entomologist and Technical Director of BedBug Central, Jeff White, explained that it was through his experience in the field that he decide to start the charitable service.
“When I was working with bed bugs, I was working with a lot of homes where people were struggling to make ends meet, let alone deal with their bed bugs,” White said. “So it was a chance for BedBug Central and the rest of the pest control industry to give back to those in need, especially around the holidays.”
After selecting three homes to receive the free treatments, over 20 man-hours were volunteered by technicians and employees of Cooper Pest Solutions. Robert DiJoseph, vice president of BedBug Central, said that he thoroughly enjoys participating in the charity and loves being able to give back to the communities.
“Bed bug services can be expensive, and many financially challenged people are forced to work more than one job, so it’s really important for them to get good quality sleep when they can,” DiJoseph said, “but with a bed bug infestation, those affected can’t get the quality sleep they need. So especially during the holidays, it’s one less thing for the families to worry about.”
White explained that with Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays, he wanted to allow families the chance to enjoy their holidays without having to worry about any problems associated with bed bugs.
“It’s important to give back,” he said, “especially for people who are struggling to provide food for their families and make ends meet. It’s important for us to provide some freedom from the issues associated with bed bugs.”
Upon completion of the services, the relief provided to the families can be so powerful and moving that it reminds everyone involved just how important their work is.
“People are almost always very appreciative of the services,” DiJoseph said. “There’s been times when recipients want to take pictures with us and wish us warm holiday greetings. Taking part in these charitable services are always one of the highlights of the holiday season for me.”
Both Cooper Pest Solutions and BedBug Central found this year’s Taking the Bite out of the Holidays to be a huge success and they look forward to the possibility of expanding to even more families next year.
Applicants can apply for Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays by writing a 300-word or less letter to “Beddy” the bed bug. Letters can be emailed to email@example.com. More information regarding Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays can be found on BedBug Central’s website.
